8.news article

One place you can take inspiration for a short film is the news, especially local news where there may be some smaller, irregular story's. In this news article, A woman pranks her husband, saying that she won £250,000, a few months later, she won £1 million. After calling her husband to tell him the news, he doesn't believe him. This caused me to wonder weather anything along these lines has happened before but with something else other than money. If it was just another prank, then nothing desperately bad will happen other that disappointment. If the wife had previously pranked her husband with something a lot more serious before, then this may not have been such a happy story. One example, may be if she pranked her husband into thinking that she was kidnapped. If this then actually happened, a lot like the news article, then the husband may not believe her and not do anything about it as he thinks it is a prank. I personally think that this would make a good short film, if it is done well then it can cause a lot of tension while she tries to prove to her husband that this time she actually has been kidnapped. If i was to make this into a film, i would give it an ending where the husband does not believe her until it is too late.
Another interesting short film that could be made from this article is what if the husband actually did believe her when it was just a prank. He could have taken it too far and built up a load of debt over that day, to then find out late that it was a prank. It would certainly be a funny comedy moment to see his reaction when he finds out that it was actually a prank, and that he had just blown his life savings. You would probably need good actors because i expect that there would then be a big argument after they find out how much money has been lost. This would however be rather expensive to create as you would need a lot of expensive props in order to show how much he went and brought.
